once upon a time i fell in love
and later on down the road i fell again
because i'd already fallen once before
i had to find my heart in wet cement

as the story goes i felt so glad
having never known the good from the bad
i'm lucky in a sense that i'm alive at all
i'm lucky in a sense that i survived the fall

if i really wanted your devotion
it never should've been of your concern
all i care about in this commotion
is that you understand what i've learned

as the chapter changed the page had turned
the protagonist had got what he deserved
sadly, the protagonist was me
and the story felt more like reality

and in the wake of everything to come
instead of wishing everything undone
i zipped my coat and tied up my old shoes
and i hit the road to seek another truth

think i was seeking evolution
i never found a hint of it at home
all i want is a fucking revolution
and i can't begin to light the fires alone

it's not to say the world isn't burning now
someway, somehow, we've got a world to save
ourselves, our souls, on a ship that's going down
someway, somehow, in a world we've got to drown
